Do I have to register the tenancy with Ejari, and whose job is it?

Registration is legally the landlord's responsibility, though it is often delegated to an agent or the tenant, who commonly pays the roughly AED 220 fee. It matters greatly: an unregistered contract isn't recognised by the Rental Dispute Centre, so without Ejari you effectively cannot file to recover rent or evict.
