Yes. Once a UAE bank learns of an account holder's death it freezes the accounts - including joint accounts, since there is no automatic right of survivorship. Funds stay locked until a court issues a succession/probate order; standing orders and cards stop too. Heirs need a succession certificate to release balances, which is much faster with a registered will.
