How many cheques do I pay the rent in?

Rent is usually paid by post-dated cheques covering the year, split into 1, 2, 4, 6 or 12 payments. One or two cheques is common in premium areas; four is typical, and some landlords now accept 12. Fewer cheques give you more negotiating power - landlords often drop the rent for a single cheque, while more cheques ease cash flow.
