What are service charges in Dubai and what do they cover?

Service charges are mandatory annual fees every freehold owner pays to run and maintain the shared parts of their building or community. They cover security, cleaning, common-area cooling and lighting, lift and equipment maintenance, landscaping, waste, building insurance, management fees, and a sinking-fund contribution for major future repairs. RERA regulates them and they are billed per square foot of your unit.
